Slitting represents 80% of Rolled Steel's business; about 65% of its slit material is cold-rolled. The majority of Rolled Steel's business is in widths between 1/2 in. and 12 in. Rolled Steel receives coils between 36 in. and 48 in. wide, slits the material, then uses its cold-reduction mills to ensure gauge consistency, and to temper material.

Cold Rolled Steel Reduction is the process of reducing thickness of hot roll pickled strip to lower target gauge points.. Steel Warehouse uses a reversing mill and a complex automation system to target precision gauge points. Our cold reduction mill services make steel harder and stronger.

The hot-rolled coil passes through pickling line, where hydrochloric acid solution is used to remove surface scales for its smooth surface finish before further processing. Pickling coils are rolled in the tandem cold rolled mill where they are processed into specified thickness. The critical point at this stage is to maintain uniform and

COLD-ROLLED STEEL. As you might suspect, the manufacturing process behind cold-rolled steel is a bit different. Despite the name, this process refers to steel that is pressed with the pressure of a roller at room temperature. Compared to hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel has a nearly 20% increase in strength through the use of strain hardening.

Cold rolled steel is offered in thickness of .011" to .134", in widths of 24 to 60 inches, as both coil and cut-to-length product. Cut to length product is offered in lengths of 30" to 192". The management system governing the manufacture of CSI's products at the Cold Sheet Mill is ISO 9001:2000 certified.

The thickness of the hot-rolled strip is important in that the properties of the final cold rolled and annealed product is influenced by the percent of cold reduction. This means that the thickness of each hot-rolled coil is carefully controlled to provide the mill with a specific thickness to achieve the proper percent cold reduction.

The shape quality, mechanical properties, and surface roughness of a strip rolled by a cold rolling mill are achieved by optimizing the rolling force and tension. Comprehensive improvement of strip shape and surface quality can also be achieved by optimizing the rolling force, strip elongation rate, and tension. Under the logic of ensuring good ...

Cold-Rolled Strip (Sheet) Sheet steel that has been pickled and run through a cold-reduction mill. Strip has a final product width of approximately 12 inches, while sheet may be more than 80 inches wide. Cold-rolled sheet is considerably thinner and stronger than hot-rolled sheet, so it will sell for a premium (see Sheet Steel). Cold Working ...

Cold Rolled Steels can be joined using accepted welding practices. SURFACE FINISH Cold Rolled Steels are manufactured with a matte finish obtained by rolling with specially roughened rolls on the cold mill and the temper mill. This finish helps to maintain effective lubrication during metal forming and improves the appearance of painted surfaces.

Black plate (basically a clean, light gauge cold rolled steel, see Steelmaking) destined for coating goes directly from either the temper mill or double cold reduction mill to the coating line. Learn about the sequence of operations that occurs in a tinplating line, at speeds up to 2000 feet per minute, below:
